About The Event

On Tuesday, September 20th, Francisco Sandoval and his Peruvian art and music company will perform in Dupont Circle from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Don't miss this chance to learn Marinera! Everyone is welcome, even beginners.

A marinera is a courtship dance from Peru's coastal regions. A couple moves gracefully and romantically with handkerchiefs as props. Combining Spanish contradanza and Andean zamacueca, this dance depicts an elegant, stylized reenactment of a courtship, showing a blend of Peruvian cultures. As Peru's most prominent traditional dance, the dance has gained recognition throughout South America and the entire World.

This event is funded by the DC Government through Live Long DC.
